Virtualization Assessment

Engagement may require between 1 to 3 consultants and last between 2 and 6 weeks depending:
     1) on the size of the environment
     2) scope of the assessment
     3) involvement of client participants

Primary Activities

•   Evaluate IT Operations Readiness
         - Provisioning, IT Tech & Ops Skills, Supporting IT infrastructure, IT Operations processes 
• Collect and Assess Data on IT environment assets and utilization
         - 30-day (or less if needed) deployment of the VMware Capacity Planner tool
         - Results in capacity analysis that identifies systems and applications for server consolidation. 
• Review IT project portfolio for target virtualization candidates and impact
         - Assess current and planned IT projects to determine if it is impacted by virtualization 
• Evaluate application portfolio for fit with virtualization
        - Review business applications infrastructure.
        - With the asset and project information, information is used to plan the migration roadmap.
        - Good candidates for migration have low CPU utilization, planned life of more than one year, low    
           I/O requirements, and tied to a major project. 
• Develop a Total Cost of Ownership comparison
       - Infrastructure costs for server hardware, storage, networking, power/cooling, data center space
       - Operations costs for provisioning, administration, disaster recovery and unplanned downtime
       - Investment costs for software licensing; design, plan, deployment; management; and training.
