HP Openview Engineer

Summary of Responsibilities:

Take a leadership technical position in the analysis, design and implementation of large-scale enterprise network management initiatives including Network Management Systems, Systems Management, and Applications Management for large distributed IT environments. Characteristics include: a superior command of technology and architectural concepts; provides high quality consulting expertise to clients; manages on-site projects and deliverables; tracks status, expenses, billing and budget estimates; provides client interaction and maintains a high level of customer satisfaction and responsiveness. The successful candidate will work independently on client engagements with minimal direct supervision and may be required to oversee the work of others.

Primary Functions:

  • Strong experience in the implementation of HP OpenView solutions with multiple components of the software.
  • Develop suggestions for how to best execute on assigned task and communicates those with manager/technical lead.
  • Apply interpersonal skills to communicate with both technical and business oriented individuals.
  • Develop clear and concise written documents that are accurate in technical content.
  • Research options and make appropriate recommendations for solving technical and non-technical problems within associated assigned tasks.
  • Own and manage assigned tasks and promptly seek new tasking when current tasks are completed.
  • Offer well-formed methods for completing assigned tasks and see them through to completion.

Job Specifications:

  • Must have installed, configured, and operated HP OpenView NNM, OVO and OVPI.
  • Must have a strong working knowledge of UNIX/Linux operating systems.
  • Experience with scripting languages.
  • Experience with Java and XML is a plus.
  • Familiarity with network/application operation and definition within the OSI model including IP, TCP, UDP and ICMP.
  • An understanding of SNMP and MIB data structures.

Education/Experience Requirements:

  • The minimum level of education and experience for this position includes:
  • Degree in CS, EE or related MIS field preferred as well as certifications on various systems and network management products.
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of hands-on experience required.
  • High degree of interpersonal skills in working with various levels of technical and business oriented individuals.
    Prior consulting experience is preferred.
